Аппалачская региональная комиссия (Комиссия по делам района Аппалачей)
Независимое государственное агентство [independent agency], занимающееся вопросами социально-экономического развития Аппалачского региона [Appalachia], который включает территорию 13 штатов. Членами комиссии являются губернаторы этих штатов или их представители; председатель назначается президентом "по совету и с согласия" [advice and consent] Конгресса США. Создано по Закону о развитии Аппалачского региона [Appalachian Regional Development Act of 1965] (в 60-е годы XX в. регион значительно отставал от остальной части страны по уровню жизни населения, уровню развития здравоохранения, образования, транспортной инфрастуктуры и т.д.), Комиссии удалось добиться значительных успехов. Деятельность Комиссии финансируется поровну из федерального бюджета и бюджетов штатов. Штаб-квартира в г. Вашингтоне
